Annecy-Survivor

At last! I’m back from Annecy, had a sunday for recreation and a monday with migraine. (I think that was inevitable. All the animation, information, movies, pictures, people, rumours, stuff and inspirations I’ve seen, heard, met, witnessed, drunk, eat and spread clearly have been too much for my poor haed! It switched his automatic defense-mechanism.)
So right now, I’m back on my feet again and back from work (still feels like monday!) and I may have a little rest and time for a first festival-resumée:

Ahem… It was great, what else!

Well, now, that’s that.

As you may notice*, I’m writing this in English, for it has been an international animation festival (although I’m not quite shure if a lot of the french festival staff knew that!), I’m trying to keep this international, too. If my orthography and grammar seem a little… scrubby… well, I’m German - don’t mention the war!

(*If you didn’t notice, ähmm… well, I don’t even want to imagine…

Before leaving to Annecy I decided not to bring along my fotograph, and I’m still not shure, if that was a good idea. But I did bring along my scetchbook, and that turned out to be a great idea!
Well, I would have brought it anyway, but still a great idea! I made a lot of sketches and scribbles which bring back far more better memories to me than any foto could do (they can be seen next to You, in the “Annecy 2007″-Gallery), and I collected 30 new Scabtrolls, not to mention the lots I scribbled on my own!

For everyone who doesn’t know what a Scabtroll is (and that was almoust everyone I asked for a little scribble! Only ONE didn’t ask “A What?” and started drawing right away instead, and I’m ashamed to say, I completely forgot who that was! Bouhuhuuu!) - a Scabtroll is the international, or to be exact, the english version of the common german Schorftroll (in french I think it’s Troll à croute, or a Troll de croute, but I’m not quite shure on this one), and that’s all the information you may need. At least it’s all the information you can get, for it spoils the fun drawing Scabtrolls if you know too much about them!

And these, Ladys and Gentlemen, are the Scabtrolls of Annecy - Ta-daaaah! (I know, it’s quite a lot! Courage! Just click right through ‘em!)

Felix Herzog (that’s me), Felix Herzog (again), Kerstin Unger, Tobi Kerstin, Michaela Wagner, Rasha El Sawiy, Heidi Wittlinger, Harald Siepermann, Marcus Koch, Izabela Plucinska, Daniel Klein, ?osaio & Marguerite, Karen Cheung, Australian Guy, Alex Roumiat, Mark Mann, Dan Haskett, Markus Bledowski, Gido Martis, Felix Herzog (still me), Guillaume, Joanna Quinn, Mascha Juergens, F. Bachmaier, In-Ah Roediger, Jamie Badminton, Felix Goennert, Kreet Paljas, Vanja Andrijevic, Felix Herzog, Peter Lindhout, Thierry Schiel, Jasper, Felix Herzog, Felix Herzog, Thomas Schmidl and Johannes Wolters.

Thank You All!

I hope I got all the names right. Sometimes they were hard to read and sometimes I forgot to ask about the artist’s familiy-name. And his/her Homepage. I’m sorry about that. But after all, it’s been quite a big collection and a much more bigger festival and one tends to forget things…

Especially me.

All of you who I met last week, no matter if you donated me a little Scabtroll or if we just had a fine, scab-free time togehter, I hope you enjoyed the festival as much as I did, I love You all, You are so wonderfull and I’m really looking forward to meet you again! If nowhere else, than in Annecy next year, of course! And if you per chance find the way here to my blog (you’re reading it right now, so assume, you already found it!) I’d be so happy if you’d leave me a little comment!
To all the rest of you, animation-folks or not, I love you almoust quite as much, if not even more, boy, am I sweet and all pink little bunnies and flowers today! Must have been the migraine, always keeps me a bit distracted from reality for a few days. Can I have some more of these little pills, please?

See ya at the movies!

(…and if you want to get rid of own Scabtrolls at home: feel free to send them to me!

I’m obliged to give every homeless Scabtroll shelter und food - scab, mostly!)

  1. Ohyeah, a great scabtroll collection. What ws your point with the English language, I didn´t get that point…;)
Oh and I know this feeling very well, this I love you all and I miss you and hope to see you ALL (!) again…it´s the groupkoller :D

  2. Groupkoller!!! Great! ^^

The point in writing english was: just in case that some of the people I met last week would drop by here on my blog, they could understand it, because a lot of them don’t speak german.
The other reason: I liked it! Felt funny.

  3. I had the same feeling after the Animation Festival in Stuttgart. After speaking English all the time and meeting new friends from all over the world, you want the festival never to end. And you keep on thinking and dreaming in English for at least a week.

  4. I have spent this, the longest day of the year, writing my Annecy article for ASIFA instead of being out in the Belgian sun (well, to be truthful it’s a bit cloudy). The Scroll Troll’s brought a great chuckel, a reminder of what I love about Annecy, and great memories of our time together on both sides of the Big Pond called the Atlantic.

Hugs and Kisses to you til we meet again,

    Nancy Denney-Phelps

  5. Hi, Nancy!

So nice you dropped by! I forgot to ask you about your new card, and it took me a bit research to find your contact!

Thank you very much for your comment! I really got a warm feeling just reading it, a memory of Annecy and the great time there! I miss Annecy so much (and you, too, of course!)
Everything around here feels so dull in comparison!

Yes, the Scabtrolls (or Scrolltrolls! That’s quite a funny, new name for them! I like it and just wonder what it means! ;) ) are just hilarious! I love them all! They’re a better souvenir than any fotographie would be! I hope that next year I’ll get one from Bill Plympton, too! :D

  7. Hi Felix, nice sketches of Annecy & a fine collection of ‘trolls’ - I wish I had met you to make a troll too but maybe next year?

  8. Hi, Matt!

I’ve just been at your blog, and:
Yeah, I wish I had met you, too, for you to make a troll!

I really love those Annecy-sketches You made! So great!

  9. Hi Felix,

When you asked me to make a scabtroll I was quite unhappy. I had no idea what a sacbtroll was and the last time I made a half decent drawing was 25 years ago at art college. But lo and behold! Here’s my drawing in the middle of all the others! And it doesn’t even look stupid (well, maybe a bit….)

I think I’ll start practising incase we meet again next year.
Unless you’re going to change the subject to wheatfairies, or slime-elephants, or …

    All the best,
    Peter

  10. Hi, Peter!

Yes, I noticed your eneasy feeling about your drawing even then in Annecy and I’m really sorry about that (You feeling bad, not me having you persuaded to make the drawing! :D ), but I can ashure You (you noticed it yourself already) your scabtroll looks as good as any other troll in my collection!

I really like those scabtrolls that show that the artist didn’t draw for quite a while. I love the idea that I was able to persuade these people (You, for example) to make a little drawing after a long time of drwaing-abstinence or after not having drawn at all since kindergarten (that was my brother-in-law, for example!)

…and after all - a Scabtroll NEVER looks ugly!

    Keep on drawing! :)

  11. Hey Felix,

Great to meet you in Annecy, and how awesome to see everyone else’s sketches up here; you got a fantastic collection over the week! Thanks so much for the link to Karrot Animation too - you’re the first one to do so and I appreciate it! : )

    Best wishes ’till next time,

    Jamie ;)
